A New Perspective for the New Year
If you’re feeling a little “off” after the holidays with eating a little differently, enjoying more sweets, sleeping in, moving less, drinking more alcohol…listen up! Before you start spiraling and thinking about all the ways you’ve “messed up” in the past couple weeks, I want you to have a new perspective on this, this year. You may physically (and mentally) be feeling a little “icky” from eating more or just differently. You may be feeling REALLY ready for a “reset” of sorts and are craving a fresh start. This doesn’t mean you have to swear off desserts or carbs. Take this as an opportunity to make an INTUITIVE shift.
Rather than going full force into an all-or-nothing mentality, really acknowledge that while how you are feeling right now is valid, you can plan some nourishing meals and get back to exercise without it becoming this complete shock to the system. Listen to what you are craving, in fact noticing how you feel right now is a peek into intuitive self care! If right now you feel internally bogged down and are actually craving some fresh foods, that’s great! Ride that wave. Listen to what you’re wanting. What I don’t want you to do is spin that into the negative and only focus on what you “shouldn’t” have or talk down to yourself. It’s OK that you enjoyed the holidays. Your body can handle some extra cookies from time to time. It’s also OK if you’re wanting to get back to a routine. This is the balance of life! We notice how we feel, we listen and we act based on that. No need to start looking up detoxes and cleanses! So again focus on what you want MORE of. If you want to move more - awesome! Just avoid setting unrealistic expectations around it or you may find yourself burnt out in a couple weeks. Intuitive self care is all about eating, moving, resting and reflecting in a way that makes sense for you in the moment. Not subscribing to the same set of exercises, meals and routines day to day just for the sake of a pre-determined result. Intuitive self care is listening to what you need each day and understanding how to create balance for yourself. Let’s welcome 2021 with open arms! I wish you all the best for you and yours this year. Be well, Rachel
